Job Description
Shared Responsibilities:
- Development of Safe Work Method Statements, updates of risk registers (shared with Operations, SCM, Engineering, Mining teams).
Excluded Responsibilities:
- Regional QHSE Policy & Procedures development
- Statutory legal compliance
Sustainability Function Management:
- Plan and implement sustainability programs and projects for properties under management (plants, quarries and mines).
- Oversee the ongoing sustainability management activities for properties under management.
- Advise on issues of environment and sustainability to ensure company standards or statutory requirements are met.
- Prepare property sustainability assessment reports to benchmark property performance and identify potential enhancements to existing sustainable property management plans.
- Undertake research to maintain a current knowledge base of relevant legislation; ensuring appropriate stakeholders are aware of substantial changes and the impact on current organization activities.
- May contribute to the preparation of tenders and/or property management service contracts; providing guidance on issues of sustainability to ensure company’s standards and statutory requirements are met.
- Ensure an ecology friendly philosophy, strategy, education and program are in place for the organization.
- Use research, writing, and analytic input for corporate sustainability programs and projects improvements.
- Develop, monitor (data collection) and review QHSE Objectives and Targets and KPIs, e.g. LTA rates.
- Manage cost of QHSE management system implementation, development and maintenance.
Sustainability Research:
- Monitor trends in environmental science, renewable resources, sustainable work processes, and other diverse fields.
- Research traditional sources for new data sets, key reports, and analytic proceedings.
- Explore alternative media, early adopters, and unconventional indicators to support corporate benchmarking and environmental regulatory compliance efforts.
Sites Compliance:
Plants & mines:
identify, assess and manage significant HSE risks that have the potential to disrupt business; Organize plant and mine QHSE audits and report outcomes, and assist sites to make improvement plans as needed.
Plants under construction, and mines under development:
work with Project Manager to manage construction site safety & environmental compliance; Ensure QHSE requirements are part of the tender and selection process.
Raw Material Suppliers:
work with Supply Chain Manager to manage supplied materials safety & environmental compliance; Ensure QHSE requirements are part of the tender and selection process.
Traded Products:
work with Product Manager to ensure products comply with corporate and regulatory requirements.
- Advise sites in maintenance of legal compliance and risk assessment registers.
- Compile regular monthly HSE reports and participate in improvement plans preparation.
- Monitor and maintain environmental and safety compliance requirements on local and national level; Keep up to date with local and regional legal matters.
- Manage status report for productions plant and quarries (also for JV’s where Omya has significant risk exposure).
- Facilitate information sharing amongst sites (plants, quarries and mines) within the legal entity.
- Establish training requirements for QHSE responsibilities.
QSHE Compliance:
- Commit to continuous improvement in occupational safety/health, environmental protection, and quality management.
- Be aware and accustomed with the significant quality, safety/health, and environmental (QSHE) aspects/impacts associated with the work, including relevant legal/other requirements and emergency preparedness and response.
Administrative:
- Maintenance and update all documents related sustainability data.
- 100% operations compliance with Life Saving Rules
- Identification and evaluation of Quality, Health, Safety Environment & product safety risks, for activities products and services, and development of risk reduction measures.
- Safety and clean conditions in the workplace and cooperate with the colleague on matters of health and safety.
- Ensure the QHSE system of all operational process accordance with ISO/OHSAS standard.
- Periodically evaluate the QHSE system for continuous improvement and maintain all the documents up to date with the applicable operation system.
- Ensure the quality & product safety of products to the customer in accordance with the quality standard and specifications have been determined.
- Reviewing customer complaints and QHSE incidents to find the root cause of the problem, so there is no recurring problem.
- Periodically examine the system assessment quality to see conformance validation assessment product.
- Review and take action to prevent the conditions that can lead to incidents
- Planning the conduct of work activities, including planning for changes and emergency response
- Performance and monitoring of activities and how corrective action is to be taken when necessary
Education:
- Bachelors and Certificate in occupational health and safety, for example NIOSH or equivalent. In a relevant technical field, with proven relevant occupational health and safety experience, and technical knowledge
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience in sustainability/QSHE role in non-metallic mining, mineral processing or engineering, or heavy industry.
- Team management experience.
Knowledge and skills (general, technical and soft skills):
Demonstrated track record:
Implementation and development of ISO/OHSAS management systems and practical understanding of cosmetics/food grade HACCP and GMP
- Capability to train and motivate operations team.
- Good analytical skills with ability to write clear and concise reports.
- Solution-oriented and proactive approach.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills across different cultures or work environments.
- Competent with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Other requirements:
- Excellent command of both oral and written local language and English are required.
- Certified training of ISO14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO9001 by an approved training organization is beneficial.
