Job Description
- Import Specialist
- What Will You Do
- Liaise primarily with suppliers in China, as well as other international suppliers, to ensure the smooth import of goods and timely shipments.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders and customs brokers to manage shipping and customs clearance processes, with a focus on imports from China.
- Create and manage Purchase Requisitions (PR) and Purchase Orders (PO) in coordination with the procurement team to ensure timely processing and delivery of goods.
- Track and monitor the status of PR-POs to ensure that all documentation is complete and goods are shipped and delivered as per the agreed timeline.
- Ensure all import documentation, including invoices, shipping documents, and customs declarations, are accurately prepared and submitted.
- Track shipments from suppliers (particularly from China) to final delivery, ensuring compliance with international shipping regulations.
- Collaborate with procurement and finance teams to streamline import operations, optimize PR-PO workflows, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Monitor changes in customs regulations, tariffs, and trade agreements, particularly between China and other relevant countries, advising management on any risks or opportunities.
- Negotiate with Chinese and other international suppliers to secure favorable terms and maintain strong relationships.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant import/export laws and company policies to avoid delays and penalties.
- Assist with import budget management, identifying opportunities for cost reduction.
- Prepare regular reports on shipping performance, PR-PO status, cost efficiency, and supplier performance for management review.
- What You Will Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Trade, or a related field
- 1-3 years in logistics, import/export operations, international trade, or supply chain management, with significant experience handling shipments from China. Experience in handling automotive products or automotive parts is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of customs clearance procedures and import/export regulations, particularly when dealing with China.
- Experience in PR-PO creation, tracking, and management.
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, to handle communication with international suppliers and prepare proper documentation.
- Ability to manage multiple shipments and supplier relationships, especially with suppliers in China.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with proficiency in Mandarin (preferred but not required).
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills, especially in handling logistics challenges with Chinese suppliers.
- Familiarity with customs documentation, procurement systems, supply chain management software, and shipping platforms.
